# Can I ship instant noodles from Japan?

> Mostly no specific rule, with exceptions. Most of the destinations Japan Post publishes rules for do not single out instant noodles, but a handful list noodles in their own import rules, several of them as prohibited by post, and Australia lists noodles alongside dairy and egg products as conditional. The seasoning matters too: sachets containing meat, egg or dairy fall under those destinations' animal-product rules. No rule is not a statement that they can be sent.

## Short answer

Plain instant noodles are a packaged, shelf-stable food, and most destinations do not single them out. The ones that do are in the table below, with Japan Post's wording: where noodles are prohibited, the rule names noodles as a whole category, with no exception for plain or packaged ones.

Elsewhere the rules that apply usually come from the sachet: a pork-flavoured soup base, dried egg or a dairy powder brings the destination's meat, egg or dairy rule into play, and many destinations prohibit meat products by post. Where a destination has no rule naming noodles, its general food rules still apply, as do Japan Post's carrier-wide rules.

An item that no rule names has no specific Japan Post rule. That is not a statement that it can be sent: it may fall under a general category, under the destination's customs law, or under the carrier-wide rules.

Whether a specific product can go in a specific parcel is decided per item: the ShipMate GO app asks the follow-up questions a rule needs and gives a verdict before anything is booked.

## How to read this guide

- Every rule below is **prohibited** or **conditional**. The list holds Japan Post's published restrictions only.
- An item that is not listed has **no specific rule here**. That is not a statement that it is allowed: it may fall under a general category (food, medicine, batteries), under the destination's customs law, or under Japan Post's carrier-wide rules.
- A **conditional** rule allows the item only when its stated conditions hold. Whether a specific product qualifies is decided per item, which is what the ShipMate GO app does before a booking.
- The **carrier-wide layer** (items Japan Post refuses or conditions to every destination) applies before and on top of any destination's own rules.
- These are Japan Post's rules for parcels sent from Japan. ShipMate ships on Japan Post and publishes them; it does not set them.
- This guide covers **one item**. A destination that does not appear under "Destination rules" has no destination-specific rule naming it; the carrier-wide rules and that destination's general customs law still apply.

## Carrier-wide rules (apply to every destination)

### Australia (AUS)

- **Dairy products, noodles, and egg products** — Conditional

  - Condition: Shelf-stable instant noodles in single-serve retail packs (ready after hot water or brief heating), with no visible pieces of meat — meat flavouring, extract or seasoning only → Permitted for personal use without an import permit (BICON: Noodles)
  - Condition: Consignment 10 kg or less → Required for the personal-use pathway
  - Condition: Egg and dairy content each below 10 % of the product → Required for the personal-use pathway

  - Condition: Commercially canned or retort-pouched noodle, dairy or egg foods containing pieces of meat → Review — BICON retorted-meat conditions apply
  - Condition: The item is not a noodle, dairy or egg product → Not applicable — this entry does not govern the item
  - Condition: Japan Post's wording: permitted only with permission from the Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service (AQIS) → Superseded — AQIS no longer exists and private recipients cannot obtain an import permit; BICON's personal-use conditions decide

## Frequently asked questions

### Which destinations have their own rule for noodles?

The table on this page lists them with Japan Post's wording and source. Several prohibit noodles by post outright. Australia lists noodles with dairy and egg products as conditional: shelf-stable, single-serve instant noodles for personal use are admitted as long as any meat is flavouring only, and noodles with visible pieces of meat are seized.

### Do meat-flavoured sachets count as meat?

Where a sachet contains meat or meat extract, destinations with a meat rule apply it to the whole product. See the meat guide for which destinations prohibit meat products by post.

### Does "no rule" mean I can send them?

No. An item that no rule names has no specific rule, which is different from being cleared. The destination's general food rules and the carrier-wide rules still apply, and the ShipMate GO app checks the exact product.

Based on carrier-published restriction data. Final acceptance is decided by the carrier and destination customs; general import rules of the destination still apply.

Japan Post sets these rules; ShipMate publishes them and ships under them. Rule text is Japan Post's, translated and summarised; every rule links to its source. The rule lists refresh daily; the written answer is reviewed by a person and dated above.
