Can I ship instant noodles from Japan?

Japan Post rules checked across 179 destinations · last verified · guide reviewed

Short answer: Mostly no specific rule, with exceptions. Most of the destinations Japan Post publishes rules for do not single out instant noodles, but a handful list noodles in their own import rules, several of them as prohibited by post, and Australia lists noodles alongside dairy and egg products as conditional. The seasoning matters too: sachets containing meat, egg or dairy fall under those destinations' animal-product rules. No rule is not a statement that they can be sent.

Plain instant noodles are a packaged, shelf-stable food, and most destinations do not single them out. The ones that do are in the table below, with Japan Post's wording: where noodles are prohibited, the rule names noodles as a whole category, with no exception for plain or packaged ones.

Elsewhere the rules that apply usually come from the sachet: a pork-flavoured soup base, dried egg or a dairy powder brings the destination's meat, egg or dairy rule into play, and many destinations prohibit meat products by post. Where a destination has no rule naming noodles, its general food rules still apply, as do Japan Post's carrier-wide rules.

An item that no rule names has no specific Japan Post rule. That is not a statement that it can be sent: it may fall under a general category, under the destination's customs law, or under the carrier-wide rules.

Whether a specific product can go in a specific parcel is decided per item: the ShipMate GO app asks the follow-up questions a rule needs and gives a verdict before anything is booked.

Japan Post's carrier-wide rules

These apply to every destination, before any country's own import rules.

No carrier-wide rule names instant noodles. The full carrier-wide list still applies to anything you send.

No destination-specific rule for instant noodles in the other 168 destinations

Japan Post's carrier-wide rules above still apply to each of them, and so does the destination's general customs law. No rule is not a statement that the item can be sent.

Common questions

Which destinations have their own rule for noodles?
The table on this page lists them with Japan Post's wording and source. Several prohibit noodles by post outright. Australia lists noodles with dairy and egg products as conditional: shelf-stable, single-serve instant noodles for personal use are admitted as long as any meat is flavouring only, and noodles with visible pieces of meat are seized.
Do meat-flavoured sachets count as meat?
Where a sachet contains meat or meat extract, destinations with a meat rule apply it to the whole product. See the meat guide for which destinations prohibit meat products by post.
Does "no rule" mean I can send them?
No. An item that no rule names has no specific rule, which is different from being cleared. The destination's general food rules and the carrier-wide rules still apply, and the ShipMate GO app checks the exact product.

Reading this page as a program or AI assistant?

The same rules are published in forms built for that. None of them needs an API key. An item that is not listed has no specific rule here, which is not the same as being allowed.
